Field Study on Pronews Fm and Warna Fm

            Last Tuesday, November 6^th, 2012, we are English Department students of State Polytechnics of Padang, who are taking English for broadcasting visited Pronews Fm (90.00 Fm) and Warna fm (91.6 fm) radio in order to do field study. Both of them are located in the same place and also leaded by the same CEO or Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Aim Zein. It’s because both of them are grouped in Pro group. Both of them are located on Jalan Belanti No.14. Although they are located on the same place and leaded by one person, they have different format. Pronews fm focus on news while Warna fm focus on entertaining people.  Now, here is the chance for me to tell you about them both.

            Before I am going to tell about the radio, I am going to tell you about the reason of why we needed to do field study to those radio stations and why should it be on Pronews fm and Warna fm.  As being the student of English for Broadcasting class, we are required to know everything about broadcasting, especially radio and television. It is started from the equipment used, the way to broadcast people, everything that should be prepared, and etc. Although we have gotten the knowledge about it in the class, but we thought that we needed to know the application of that. That’s why we needed to do field study. As we have did field study to two TV stations in Padang, so this is the time for us to do field study to radio stations. Then, why did we choose to go to Pronews fm and Warna fm? It’s because there are these radio stations are unique. Firstly, they are the best private radio in Padang. Secondly, they are located on the same places but, they have different format. From those two basic reasons, we went there.  Now, I am going to tell you what we got there.

            When arrived there, we are welcomed by the owner of those radio stations directly. He was really friendly to us. After doing chit chat for a while, we are invited to the meeting room. In this room, Mr. Aim Zein talked more about these radio stations. So, we knew many things about these stations and I would like to tell you what I got there.  Firstly, I am going to tell you about pronews fm and after that, I am going to tell you about Warna fm.

Pronews fm was built by Mr. Aim Zein and his friends from Metro TV crew on April 1^st, 2005. The idea of building this radio is because the tragedy of Tsunami in Aceh. It started when they didn’t find any radio station which had news format. They thought that they needed something new which can give the satisfaction to the public. So, they built Pronews fm. At the first time, they created the name of this station is Metro fm but, they changed their mind by giving “Pronews fm”. It’s because the format of this station is newstainment. Mr. Aim said that the tagline of Pronews fm is “The smart news radio”. They made this tagline because they want to deliver the smart news which are actual, quick, and the best.

Mr. Aim explained that Pronews has some added value.  Firstly, Pronews uses technology welcome system. It means that Pronews likes to use any kinds of latest technology in order to develop Pronews Fm. Secondly, Pronews Fm has many good people whether they are announcers or employees. Thirdly, Pronews has good networking. Mr. Aim said that keeping relationship well with the other is very important for a radio station. It’s because keeping relationship with others can help the radio station to do something and also in getting information.  Besides that, Mr. Aim also talked about the broadcasting schedule on Pronews Fm.  

            Now, I am going to tell about Warna Fm. Warna Fm was built by Mr. Aim Zein and his friends on February 9^th, 2012. The format of Warna Fm is Young and Adult. Why did Mr. Aim build this station? It’s because he wanted to fulfill what the society need. At the first time, the name of Warna Fm is Pro Dangdut. After broadcasting for some months, Mr. Aim realized that Pro Dangdut doesn’t really like by the people. Then, it is changed into Warna Fm after Mr. Aim and his friends cooperated with Warna Fm in Singapore.  They suggested Mr. Aim to adopt their station’s name.

            After talking more about Pronews  Fm and Warna Fm, Mr. Aim invited us to go to each studio to see an announcer broadcasting some information and news. In addition, it is for making the students know the real situation in studio. Mr. Aim also reminded us to remember about the principle that we have to use in broadcasting. It is neutrality principle. In the last session, we took some pictures together in front of the office.
